YING YANG LEGO ROBOTICSBusUP
The bus that rises above traffic jams.
An innovative project to transform urban transport and create more efficient and cleaner cities.
Discover the ProjectWhat if buses didn't get stuck?
That was the question that gave birth to BusUP. We combined creativity with mechanics and programming to imagine a real solution to a daily problem.

The Essence of BusUP
Our project was born from a simple idea: create a bus that could elevate itself to avoid traffic. BusUP is the result of that vision, a proposal that not only seeks to solve a problem but also represents our learning in robotics, design, and teamwork.
The Challenge: Urban Traffic Jams
We observed our city and saw a recurring problem: stopped traffic. This is not only a waste of time but also a source of pollution.
School Zones
Double parking at school gates creates major bottlenecks every day.
Roundabouts & Crossings
Critical points where vehicle flow slows down, affecting public transport.
Roadworks & Avenues
Lane reductions turn large avenues into traps for buses.

Vision of the problem by Enzo.
Direct Impact
Traffic jams cause passengers to be late, increase stress, and most importantly, fumes from idling cars pollute the air we breathe. We spoke with family and neighbors, and everyone agreed: we needed an innovative solution.
The Solution: BusUP in Action
BusUP is a smart bus that works like a normal one, but with a special ability: it can elevate itself autonomously to overcome traffic jams.
1. Normal Circulation
The bus moves like any other public transport vehicle.
2. Traffic Detection
A front sensor detects if there are stopped cars and activates the system.
3. Lift & Advance
The bus rises and moves over the traffic without stopping.
4. Safe Descent
A bottom sensor detects the end of the traffic jam, and the bus lowers gently.
From Sketch to Reality
The path to creating BusUP was full of trial, error, and above all, a lot of learning. Each challenge made us stronger.
Design Evolution
First Attempt: The Rope
Our initial inspiration was the rope winding mechanism from the LEGO WeDo 2.0 kit. However, we soon discovered it didn't have enough strength to lift the bus stably.
- Problem: Little strength and stability.
- Consequence: The bus swayed and didn't lift correctly.
Improved Solution: Gears
After several attempts, we switched the system to a gearbox with a worm gear. This multiplied the motor's force and gave us a firm and controlled lift. The bus now went up and down perfectly!
- Improvement: Greater strength and control.
- Adjustments: We added counterweights and a pulley system on the wheels to move the extra weight.
The Robotics Behind BusUP
The brain of our prototype is based on LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 technology, programmed to follow a logical and precise sequence.

Hub 1: Advance
Controls the wheel motor with pulleys.

Hub 2: Lifting
Manages the gear mechanism.

Hub 3: Sensors
Detects start and end of traffic jams.
Meet the Team
We are Enzo and Rafael. Together we are YING YANG LEGO ROBOTICS. We are passionate about creating, building, and solving problems with robotics.

Our Way of Working
We participate in everything equally. We divide our sessions into two parts: first, observe, research, and document; and second, build, program, and test.
Enzo: He is the visionary. He takes care of imagining, sketching, and graphically documenting every idea.
Rafael: He is the builder. He stands out in the assembly and programming part, bringing ideas to life.
